RCD to end management of Tijuana River Valley Community Garden
The Resource Conservation District of Greater San Diego County (RCDGSDC) has been honored to manage the Tijuana River Valley Community Garden since 2002. Over the years, we’ve been privileged to be a part of the dedication, care, and sense of community that has built this incredibly special place.
On July 22, 2025, the County of San Diego Board of Supervisors renewed its proclamation of a local emergency due to the ongoing Tijuana River sewage crisis. With the health and safety of gardeners, farmers, and staff as our top priority—and given the increased flooding and related challenges in recent years—the RCDGSDC has made the very difficult decision to conclude management of the Garden and return the site to the County.
For gardeners that are interested in moving, we have a limited number of 20’ x 20’ and 10’ x 20’ plots available at the Sweetwater Community Garden, located at 5354 Sweetwater Road, Bonita, CA 91902. Please contact John Hendra at john.hendra@rcdsandiego.org for more information.
The County of San Diego will determine next steps for the TRV site and will continue working with us as options are explored. If you have questions about the future of the property, please contact Charles Gailband, County of San Diego South County Region Manager, at charles.gailband@sdcounty.ca.gov.
We are truly grateful for the many years of stewardship and care the community and garden members have invested in the TRV Community Garden. If you have any questions, please contact Ann Baldridge at or ann.baldridge@rcdsandiego.org.
