We are seeking an Environmental Education Assistant who is passionate about teaching children and people of all ages about the benefits of sustainable farming, watershed health and land stewardship. The primary responsibility of this position is to promote, coordinate, and present the Watershed Education Program which is delivered in partnership with the San Diego Unified Port District. The program aims to educate 2nd – 6th grade students about watersheds, how our waterways become polluted, and what students can do to make a difference. This is conveyed through a one hour presentation using a three dimensional watershed model. The program is targeted at schools within the San Diego Bay Watershed. The Environmental Educator will also assist with the Field Trip programs at Wild Willow Farm. These trips offers hands-on educational experiences about food growing and farm biodiversity. Field trips are available to groups ages four and up. Most field trips are for schools, camps, scout groups, home school groups, and college students. Field trips typically include four separate rotations of the farm and may also include a nature walk.
Position Responsibilities:
- Promoting, coordinating, and presenting watershed education programs in schools throughout San Diego County. This includes all aspects of program administration and delivery, including assisting with quarterly reports and program evaluation and administration.
- Reviewing and updating program materials to fully meet grade-level NGSS standards and to align with STEM objectives.
- Maintaining detailed reports on presentations, grading pre- and post-tests, preparing teacher packets.
- Providing guidance to program interns.
- Work closely with the Education Manager on various educational programs.
- Work with Wild Willow Farm staff to plan relevant, seasonal activities for field trip rotations.
- Assist the Field Trip Coordinator to lead field trips to communicate with teachers and groups.
- Participate in set up before and clean up after field trips. This includes cleaning the bathrooms and the barn, emptying trash, putting away tools properly, cleaning the kitchen, harvesting and preparing produce to taste, replacing soap and towels at hand washing stations, and attending a debriefing session.
- Ensure the wellbeing of participants and that safety protocol are followed.
- Work with Wild Willow Farm staff to plan relevant, seasonal activities for field trip rotations.
- Assist with communication and outreach including coordinating the RCD and WWF social media presence.
- Attending public events to represent the RCD as required.
- Working cooperatively with RCD staff on other projects as directed.

Field trips are available to groups ages four and up. Most field trips are for schools, camps, scout groups, home school groups, and college students. Field trips typically include four separate rotations of the farm and may also include a nature walk. The Farm Education Coordinator also coordinates farm experiences with adult groups (often a farm tour or activity), public events, and public volunteering days.
Position responsibilities:
- Serve as the point of contact for the field trip program: Respond to field trip application queries in a timely manner and work with groups to book their trips; send confirmation email and paperwork; confirm field trip details, including desired rotations; greet group upon arrival; collect waivers and payments; and lead field trips.
- Work with Wild Willow Farm staff to plan relevant, seasonal activities for field trip rotations.
- Coordinate staffing and preparation for farm educational activities, including field trips, group activities, events, and public volunteering.
- Participate in set up before and clean up after field trips. - Train or support other field trip leaders or interns to learn field trip content and procedures needed.Serve as the point of contact for adult groups that wish to visit the farm for educational experiences. Communicate pricing structure, options for activities, support the registration process, and lead activities on the day of the visit.
- With input from farm staff, plan activities for monthly public volunteering mornings. This includes identifying tasks needed on the farm, greeting volunteers upon arrival, splitting them into working groups, and debriefing them on the days’ activities.
- Ensure the wellbeing of participants and that safety protocols are followed.
- Attend staff meetings and training and development sessions.
We are seeking a Community Garden Assistant who is passionate about agriculture and conservation, to maintaining communal areas of both gardens and the hedgerow at the TRV Community Garden.
Position Responsibilities:
- Maintain communal areas, pathways, fenceline and hedgerows free of weeds.
- Manage green waste bin for capacity and contamination.
- Conduct repairs of irrigation system as needed.
- Assist with organizing and participate in garden events and workdays.
- Serve as an RCD liaison with garden members and refer questions to the relevant staffperson.
- Assist Garden Coordinator with additional tasks as needed.

The Hub Coordinator will accelerate adoption of carbon farming and climate-smart practices in the region through stakeholder engagement and coordination, education and outreach, needs assessments, fund development and policy advocacy. The position focuses on building the technical capacity of member RCDs while expanding the statewide Carbon Farming Network. Deadline to apply is Monday, August 28th.
Principal Roles
- Hub Coordination – The Hub Coordinator will serve as the main organizer for the SoCal Hub and, in collaboration with other Hub Coordinators, help build the network of RCD Regional Carbon Farming Hubs across the state.
- Help coordinate and build RCD conservation technical assistance and planning capacity within the SoCal Hub.
- Regularly communicate with CARCD, CCI, and the six other Hub Coordinators.
- Climate Planning – The Hub Coordinator will work closely with all RCDs within the SoCal Hub, partner agricultural conservation organizations (e.g., NRCS and UCCE), and the agricultural community to assess the regional potential for carbon sequestration and the barriers to adoption of climate-beneficial agricultural conservation practices.
- Oversee one landscape-scale assessment of carbon sequestration for each member RCD.
- Determine the specific needs of regional agricultural producers and technical assistance providers through regular communication with local partners and stakeholders.
- Coordinate local and regional meetings, including a steering committee to develop a regional needs assessment and a collaborative climate mitigation implementation plan.
- Outreach and Technical Support – The Hub Coordinator will facilitate peer-to-peer learning and resource sharing among program partners to support the mission of the SoCal Hub.
- Organize and support education and outreach activities, including workshops, field days and webinars, for farmers, ranchers, partner organizations, and stakeholders.
- Manage communications networks through media platforms.
- Support funding for SoCal Hub activities through grant proposal coordination, writing, and execution.
- Build partnerships and coalitions that support agricultural climate solutions by developing a thorough understanding of all support programs available to agricultural producers and streamlining communication and collaboration among regional partners, such as NRCS, UCCE, and others.
- Awareness and Advocacy – The Hub Coordinator will work closely with CCI and CARCD to build understanding about agricultural climate solutions regionally and statewide.
- Build understanding among a variety of stakeholders and policy-makers about the potential for agricultural climate solutions and the support needed to implement them.
- Organize, attend and advocate at relevant local, regional, and statewide meetings with elected officials, state and federal agency representatives, agricultural industry groups, and other conservation partners.
