The Resource Conservation District of Greater San Diego County administers the programs of the Fire Safe Council of San Diego County.  The Fire Safe Council is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation and is governed by a 15-member Board of Directors.

Vegetation Reduction

If you are a resident living in a high-risk rural fire area in San Diego County, you may qualify to have your tree and bush trimmings chipped by a chipping crew. This service is provided free to qualifying residents in targeted areas on a first come, first serve basis.

Contact the Fire Safe Council at (619) 562-0096 or visit the Fire Safe Council of San Diego County website for more information about target communities and program guidelines.

Funding is provided by National Fire Plan grants from the U.S.D.A. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management through the California Fire Safe Council.

Community Fire Safe Councils

Fire is a fact of life in California.  Learning to live with the threat of fire means protecting our community assets from potential wildfire damage with minimal impact to the natural environment in which we live.

The RCD has staff that helps Community Fire Safe Councils mobilize people who stand to lose something of great value to fire by creating a powerful group initiative.  The Fire Safe Council of San Diego County provides educational outreach, valuable resources and support services for new and existing community Fire Safe Councils throughout San Diego County.

To date, the Fire Safe Council of San Diego County has been instrumental in creating and supporting 68 community Fire Safe Councils in San Diego County – which represents 40% of the community Fire Safe Councils in operation in California.

All programs of the RCD are funding-dependent and are supported by grants, fees-for-service, and/or donations.
